Mowbray School
Mowbray School educates and cares for statemented pupils aged three to sixteen, with a wide range of learning difficulties; including moderate and severe learning difficulties; autistic spectrum condition; speech, language and communication difficulties; social emotional behavioural difficulties and physical & sensory impairments.
Purpose-built and opened in 1982, the school is well resourced and has been adapted over the years to meet the needs of the ever-changing pupil population. It has a very large catchment area, covering 1400 square miles, with pupils from both rural and urban areas, and five military bases. There are 138 pupils on the school roll, all of whom have a Statement of Special Educational Needs. The school was inspected by Ofsted in January 2013 and graded good in all aspects and good overall, with partnerships with parents outstanding. We are very proud to be accredited by the National Autistic Society, this status was awarded in December 2012.
The school ethos of achieving ‘Success through Understanding, Respect and Endeavour’ - SURE - underpins all learning and the values that parents, pupils and staff wish to promote and develop. The ability range of the pupils is wide, from p2ii to GCSE pass grades. Accommodating this range of ability and individual pupil needs means that learning is personalised and pupils are grouped by ability within the Key Stages.
